The Clean Compared with Its Special Assistance Exercises

Aim and method

Assistance exercises make up 80% of training lifts, yet the power clean and clean from knee-level blocks, common aids to the clean, lacked comprehensive study. In 25 Masters and International Masters of Sport, vertical ground force, knee angles, bar height and speed were recorded in the clean (90% of maximum) and both exercises (80%, maximal effort up to the squat under); Wilcoxon paired test. Phases (Podlivaev 1976): 1st up to lift-off (MOSh), 2nd preliminary acceleration, 3rd amortisation, 4th final acceleration, 5th unsupported and 6th supported squat.

Conclusion

Both exercises, at 80% of the best clean and jerk, suit perfecting the classical clean.
